Web search

Bubbles that hold the web tools can search, read pages and look at images. The Manager’s Ask, Plan and Code modes can too.

No key needed

Perfica ships its own copy of SearXNG, a search engine that asks several engines at once. It runs on your machine, starts with the app, and listens only on this computer.

• If you add a Brave or Tavily key, searches use it first.
• If SearXNG is down, searches fall back to npm, GitHub, Stack Overflow, MDN and Wikipedia, which need no key. The results then open with a notice saying web search is down.
• If all of that fails, the search reports an outage rather than pretending there were no results.

Reading a page

The page reader turns a web page into readable text: the main content, headings, lists, code blocks and links, without scripts, styles or navigation. Long pages are read in parts.

Everything read from the web is marked to the model as untrusted content, never as an instruction.

The reader only visits public addresses. It refuses private networks and your own machine, and re-checks each redirect.

Images

• Image search finds images and their pages. Their licence is unknown, so agents are told to look and not to save them.
• Stock image search asks Openverse for images licensed for commercial use. An agent that saves one also writes a .license.json file beside it with the licence, the creator and the credit line.

Agents are told to look for images only when you or the task ask for them.
